Paul Klema has been working as a university assistant (Praedoc) in the Research Unit Urban and Regional Research since February 2026 and is responsible for coordinating the Research School Transformations in Architecture and Planning, opens an external URL in a new window.
He studied spatial planning at the Technical University of Vienna, earning his bachelor’s degree (2018–2021) and master’s degree (2021–2025), including a semester in Paris at Sorbonne University (2022). He completed his studies in 2025 with a thesis on the discourse surrounding the transformation of public spaces in Marseille. In addition, he worked for the urban planning firm superwien urbanism in Vienna from 2022 to 2026, where he gained experience in international research and planning projects. Among other things, he was involved in the MetroLab project, which addressed issues of sustainable transformation and the governance of the Vienna metropolitan region.
His current research focuses on socio-ecological transformation processes in metropolitan regions, their social negotiation, and the resulting conflicts in planning.
