Excursion to the "WeltTellerFeld" 2024

As part of the orientation week, the Research Unit of Regional Planning and Regional Development was visiting the WeltTellerFeld in the Lobau together with first semester students.

Vienna has a variety of different soils with high fertility for agricultural use. Vienna, for example, is the only major city in the world to have vineyards within its city borders. However, these valuable soils are threatened by future urban planning developments and are increasingly shrinking.

During the excursion to the WeltTellerFeld, opens an external URL in a new window (world plate field), the connections between food security, agricultural land and spatial planning were highlighted and discussed with the new students. The WeltTellerFeld, an interactive educational site in Vienna's 22nd district, can be used to demonstrate the complex interrelationships of the global food system using a tangible area. The WeltTellerFeld is an initiative of the Vienna Food Council, opens an external URL in a new window, the small city farm, opens an external URL in a new window, the Bread for the World, opens an external URL in a new window campaign and the Hallo Klima, opens an external URL in a new window association. The site is open to the public and can also be explored on one's own along stations and information boards.
