Interests: Regional planning, energy spatial planning, the application and implementation of AI in spatial planning

Jonas Kolmer grew up in Linz, Upper Austria. From 2020 to 2023, he studied spatial planning and regional development at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) and has been pursuing a master’s degree in this field since the summer semester of 2024. In his bachelor’s thesis, he analyzed mobility and accessibility issues in Austria’s Alpine tourism regions and developed initial approaches for evaluating public transportation in those areas.

He gained practical experience as a tutor in the Regional Planning and Regional Development Research Division, at the Austrian Road Safety Board (KFV), with the State of Upper Austria, at the COFT planning office, and as part of a course at Stanford University.

He is currently writing his thesis on the use of generative AI in regional planning, working as a research assistant at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), and serving as a project team member on the “STICS” (Smart Transformation & Innovation Consortium Slovakia) project, which focuses, among other things, on AI and smart city solutions in local governments.
