The module deals with development trends in city and landscape. The combination of theory-guided and practice-based design project(s), field trip(s), lecture exercises, and seminars focuses on integrated urban and open space planning. In this context, project-oriented work in which designs in built-up (urban) and undeveloped areas (landscape) are developed is supplemented by a practical planning discourse, a topic-related excursion, and an in-depth study of climate change adaptation in cities and the landscape, both theoretically-reflexively and methodologically-analytically. A further deepening is possible through a theoretical-practical examination of a specific thematic focus from cities and landscape. Cooperation between the fields of study architecture and spatial planning within the framework of the module will be sought.

Large-scale transformation processes in the landscape and in people's lives - post-mining landscape of Lausitz - Germany

"Hardly any other region in Germany is subject to such fundamental and ongoing landscape changes to a comparable extent as Lusatia. For more than 100 years, landscapes have given way over a large area to the extraction of lignite, only to be recreated again in a process of gradual reclamation of the areas claimed by mining." (BTE 2013). Germany has a goal of phasing out coal by 2035 and becoming climate neutral by 2050. What does this mean for the region and what can it stand for in 2100? The course addresses the related issues of landscape change, climate change, structural change and energy transition. Images of the future for the region and concrete creative impulses for a corresponding process are to be developed.

The LVA always takes place on Tuesdays between 09:00 - 13:00.

Excursion: An essential part of the design is an excursion to Lusatia 24.04 - 03.05.2022. Participation is mandatory for a positive completion of the LVA.

This course provides an exploration of climate change and its consequences for the city and landscape. In this summer semester, we will deal with landscape transformations XL. Large-scale and ecological effects of societal processes on the landscape and the direct and indirect connection with aspects of climate change will be examined.
