Austria is a 'hotspot' when it comes to natural hazards. In summer and winter, hardly a month goes by without the media reporting heat waves, severe thunderstorms, heavy precipitation, etc. The already extensive exposure to hazards in Austria is intensified by climate change. Spatial planning is an essential field in risk prevention and thus an integral part of natural hazard management. In the Master's project, the students are therefore concerned with working out current challenges and focal points that will be necessary in the future, and with acquiring extensive knowledge. The excursion will take us to the southern Machland region and to the mouth of the Enns River, where we will visit flood protection measures with local stakeholders and discuss the settlements that have been carried out. Afterwards, we will continue to Salzburg, where we will explore natural hazard management in an urban and rural context.
