Since 1 January 2025, TU Wien has been sourcing exclusively certified, renewable green electricity (UZ 46) at all its sites. With this complete transition, the university is marking a key milestone within the framework of the Performance Agreement and the fuTUre fit process, and is making a decisive contribution to Goal 6, “Sustainability”.

At the same time, TU Wien is supporting the United Nations’ 7th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – “Affordable and Clean Energy” – thereby strengthening one of the most important foundations of global sustainable development. Thanks to the switch to green electricity, TU Wien’s largest source of emissions has already been significantly reduced by 2025.

When it comes to heating, TU Wien also relies on certified quality: the majority of its heating needs are met by Fernwärme Wien, whose energy mix is regularly certified by TÜV Austria. Together with BIG, TU Wien is also working consistently towards the decarbonisation of the remaining gas heating systems.
