Women4Geo Summer Job in our Remote Sensing unit

Job offer

As part of our effort to strengthen the representation of women in the research unit Remote Sensing (RS) at the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation (GEO), we invite applications for the position “Women4Geo” summer job from students that identify as women and are interested in microwave remote sensing.

The RS unit engages in fundamental remote sensing research and develops methods, algorithms, and open-source code in Python for processing of active microwave remote sensing data in order to generate value-added products such as soil moisture, flood extent, vegetation maps, drought-warning indicators, and others. Furthermore, the group develops novel applications by collaborating with scientists from many other fields such as hydrology, climate change, meteorology, and agronomy.

You will support one of our teams in specific research projects dealing with the topics described above. Please see our projects and our recent publications for reference. We ask you to write a short proposal about the specific topic you would be most interested working on. Details of the tasks will be defined upon start of the contract based on your qualifications and interests.

We offer

  • a full-time summer job for two months (40 hours per week)

  • flexible start and end dates (July–September) and flexible working hours

  • a workspace in our department with access to our data and technical infrastructure

  • the opportunity to design and carry out your own clearly scoped research project (feasible within two months)
  • close mentoring, regular exchange, and a supportive, collaborative team environment where questions and ideas are welcome

Please apply if you

  • identify as a woman

  • are a bachelor’s or master’s student in the fields of geodesy, geoinformation, geosciences, or similar disciplines

  • have experience in Python programming (from coursework, projects, or prior work)

  • enjoy analytical thinking and working with scientific data

  • are curious, proactive, and comfortable asking questions
  • like working independently while also being part of an engaged and respectful team

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement but are enthusiastic about the topic and motivated to grow.

The application should include:

  • a motivation letter including the area/project/topic to which you would like to contribute

  • your CV, including information on your technical, programming, and remote sensing experience

  • the keyword Women4Geo in the subject of the email.

If you are interested, please send your application with the subject “Women4Geo - RS” to apply@geo.tuwien.ac.at until 31.03.2026.
