The VBW Dissertation Award honors excellent, industry-related dissertations at the intersection of business and technology. It highlights research excellence that is strongly connected to real-world industrial challenges and practical applicability.

In his dissertation “Reciprocal human-machine learning in manufacturing”, Dr. Steffen Nixdorf introduces Reciprocal Human–Machine Learning (RHML) as a bidirectional learning process in which humans and AI systems learn from each other through interaction and jointly leverage their respective strengths. The core idea is a cooperative form of collaboration that not only supports task performance but also actively triggers learning on both sides, contributing to hybrid intelligence in manufacturing contexts.

We are delighted about this recognition and wish Dr. Steffen Nixdorf continued success and impact in his role in industrial leadership and innovation!
