As the first university member, we are delighted to be part of the Bodenbündnis Österreich (Austrian Soil Alliance) and, at the same time, the European Land and Soil Alliance (ELSA) as a European network for sustainable land and soil use.

Julia Forster from the Local Planning Research Unit explains: "Soil is often taken for granted, even though it fulfils key functions – as the basis of life, a water reservoir, for CO₂ sequestration and much more. We want to help raise awareness of these interrelationships." She is also the official representative of TU Wien in the Soil Alliance.

The Department of Spatial Planning in particular, but also other departments at TU Wien, play an important role in the management of soil resources. Joining the Soil Alliance provides a platform that facilitates research collaborations, funding opportunities and improved exchange and networking.
