The monitoring report, 'Automated Mobility in Austria 2025', provides an overview of the latest developments, projects and trends in automated mobility. In addition to national initiatives, it highlights European research projects developing new mobility solutions for the future.

One such project is TRACE, which focuses on integrating automated delivery vehicles into urban logistics systems. The project aims to use a digital platform to consolidate various data sources, such as traffic conditions, transport modes, and goods flows, thereby enabling informed decisions regarding mode selection and route planning.

Particular focus is given to determining the conditions under which automated delivery vehicles can be deployed in public spaces. The Suitability Framework, which was developed as part of the project, evaluates road spaces from both technical and social perspectives, including interaction with pedestrians. The aim is to ensure that automated logistics solutions can be integrated not only efficiently, but also compatibly, into existing mobility systems.

Various European cities have already implemented initial pilot projects and simulations using the TRACE platform. These projects and simulations provide valuable insights into the potential integration of automated delivery services into urban logistics in the future.
