In perfect summer weather, the reparier:bar at the Getreidemarkt campus was officially inaugurated on June 16. Following opening remarks by Kerstin Schön and Kurt Weninger, numerous visitors took the opportunity to explore the new bicycle workshop while enjoying waffles, refreshments, and a bicycle check provided by the HTU.
The reparier:bar is the result of an interdisciplinary course involving students of architecture and spatial planning. As part of the course “Design Studio – The Bicycle Repair TUr”, students designed and built a bicycle workshop for the Getreidemarkt campus. The outcome is much more than just a repair facility: the reparier:bar is intended to serve as a new meeting place on campus, combining practical infrastructure with a welcoming atmosphere, vibrant colors, and great attention to detail.
The workshop offers a wide range of options for both minor and more extensive repairs. A freely accessible quick-fix station enables users to carry out small repairs independently. In addition, the facility includes a tool cabinet stocked with repair equipment, storage surfaces, a parking space for the HTU cargo bike, mobile seating, and permanently installed hanging seats. A projection screen for events is also part of the concept. For more extensive repair work, a key can be borrowed from the porter’s office. The reparier:bar aims to be more than a traditional bicycle workshop, as reflected in its planned event program. The first lern:bar (learning workshop) will take place on June 30. Participants are invited to bring their bicycles and learn how to carry out basic repairs themselves under expert guidance. During the summer months, a film:bar is also planned, expanding the space into a cultural meeting point.
In the long term, the project will thrive through the people who are willing to share their knowledge and experience. Anyone who enjoys working on bicycles and helping others is invited to become part of the reparier:bar community. The project is looking for dedicated individuals who would like to pass on their expertise and help establish an open repair culture at TU Wien.
