At this year’s Open House at the Campus Getreidemarkt, TU Wien offered a wide range of hands-on insights into research, technology, and science. We were also there with two interactive stations and were able to give numerous visitors a closer look at our work.

At the “Motion Analysis” station, interested visitors gained exciting insights into modern methods of biomechanical analysis of movement sequences. Using EMG sensors, optical tracking, and force measurement, muscle activity and movements could be visualized and analyzed in real time.

The “Lasers, Microparticles, and Flow – Hands-On Fluid Dynamics” station focused on experimental flow research. The basics of optical flow measurement technology, as well as results from experiments using PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry), were presented and explained in an accessible manner. In addition, visitors were able to experience the behavior of non-Newtonian fluids firsthand using a starch-water mixture and a screwdriver, and feel how the material suddenly behaves as a liquid or solid depending on the load.
