The award was presented to him by ÖMG President Prof. Johannes Wallner during the ÖMG Award Session at this year’s joint ÖMG-DMV Annual Meeting in Linz, where he was also given the opportunity to present his dissertation.

Supervised by Prof. Dirk PRAETORIUS, Maximilian Brunner completed his dissertation at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing in April 2024 with distinction. In his work, now honored with the ÖMG Study Prize, opens an external URL in a new window, he develops and analyzes efficient algorithms for the numerical treatment of semilinear partial differential equations, which are of central importance in many areas of science and engineering. The nonlinearity of the model problem posed a particular challenge in the development of the algorithms, since various sources of error in the numerical simulation must be automatically controlled and optimally balanced against each other. The algorithms he developed are proven to deliver optimal results for a prescribed accuracy, i.e., any level of precision required by the user is achieved with minimal computational cost and, correspondingly, short computation time.

The ASC warmly congratulates Maximilian Brunner on this award and wishes him continued success on his scientific path!
