The senior mobility study carried out by aspern.mobil LAB has been completed. Its aim was to better understand the mobility needs of older adults in aspern Seestadt and identify concrete starting points for future measures for Wien 3420.

As part of the study, two workshops were organised, 17 residents were interviewed and six experts contributed their perspectives. In addition, data from the aspern Seestadt mobility survey were analysed to gain a comprehensive understanding of existing challenges and opportunities.

The findings identified three key areas for future action:

  • Cycling at an older age – creating conditions that enable older adults to continue cycling safely for as long as possible.
  • Safe and accessible infrastructure – focusing on barrier-free public spaces and transport infrastructure.
  • Immobility and social participation – supporting inclusion and participation when personal mobility becomes limited.

The study highlights the growing importance of senior mobility. This is also reflected in the new Senior Strategy presented in May by the City of Vienna and the Fonds Soziales Wien, which places a strong emphasis on independence and social participation in older age.

The results provide an evidence base for further developing age-friendly mobility measures and will inform the ongoing work of aspern.mobil LAB.
