Results of the mobility surveys in the Montafon region

The mobility surveys for tourism in the Montafon region of Vorarlberg, carried out as part of the HAF-ALP-TOUR project, have now been completed and compiled into a report.

During the 2025 summer season and the 2025/2026 winter season, over 1,000 tourists were surveyed about how they travelled to the Montafon region and how they got around whilst there.

The results show that day visitors to the Montafon, in particular, use public transport to reach their (day) holiday destination. Of the day tourists surveyed in the summer, 56 ％ said they had travelled by bus or train; in the winter, the figure was 40 ％ of day tourists (see chart).

In parallel with the mobility survey, a stated-choice experiment was also carried out for the research project in the winter of 2025/2026 by colleagues from stadtland. The analysis of the SC survey, carried out by yverkehrsplanung, shows that tourists are highly willing to use automated vehicles whilst on holiday.

The final report paints a comprehensive picture of tourists in the Montafon and forms a basis for further research within the framework of HAF-ALP-TOUR.
