Within the APPEAR project Clean and Prosperous Uganda, we explore recovery options for fecal sludge and solid waste from composting plants and other treatment facilities in Uganda. Throughout the project, protecting human health remains a central consideration in all recommendations aimed at improving waste management systems.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our lead partners from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) at Makerere University: Prof. Jeninah Karungi, Dr. Allan Komakech, and Dr. Alice Turinawe.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on the project's achievements so far, including seven peer-reviewed publications. Together with our institute head, Helmut Rechberger, we also discussed opportunities for continued collaboration beyond the project's completion.

We are particularly proud that our project coordinator at Makerere University, Prof. Jeninah Karungi, was invited to present the project at the APPEAR 15+2 Anniversary Event organized by OeAD – Agency for Education and Internationalisation. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
