In April 2026, Anastasia MOLCHANOVA successfully completed her habilitation and was awarded the venia docendi in Mathematics. The Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing warmly congratulates Priv.-Doz. Dr. Anastasia MOLCHANOVA on this important milestone in her academic career.

Anastasia MOLCHANOVA studied Mathematics at Novosibirsk State University and obtained her PhD (Candidate of Sciences) from the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics in 2016. Following research and teaching positions in Novosibirsk, she moved to Vienna, where she held Lise Meitner and REWIRE fellowships at the University of Vienna and TU Wien. She is currently an Elise Richter Fellow at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing.

Her research lies at the interface of functional analysis, the calculus of variations, and nonlinear continuum mechanics, with particular emphasis on Sobolev and Banach function spaces, quasiconformal analysis, and nonlinear elasticity. The habilitation thesis combines analytical and variational perspectives on problems arising in nonlinear elasticity and PDEs. The external reviewers praised the work as original, scientifically timely, and important, highlighting both the breadth of the results and their conceptually innovative contributions.

“The combination of originality and talent that she brings with her mastery of Function Spaces and the Calculus of Variations puts her in a privileged position to tackle hard, contemporary problems.”

Teaching has always formed an integral part of her academic work. At TU Wien and the University of Vienna, she has taught both foundational and advanced courses in mathematical analysis, Sobolev spaces, quasiconformal mappings, and analysis for computational science. She has supervised bachelor’s and master’s theses and is highly appreciated by students for her clear exposition and dedication to supporting young researchers.

ASC wishes Priv.-Doz. Dr. Anastasia MOLCHANOVA continued success in her future scientific endeavors!
