The catalog, developed together by TU Wien and TU Graz, comprises a total of 33 environmental award criteria that can be used in construction bids and adapted on a project-by-project basis. Key areas of focus include transportation and construction site logistics, the use of renewable energy sources, waste management and recycled materials, life cycle assessment and CO₂ reduction, life cycle costs, and environmental expertise.

The catalog of recommendations is intended for practical application by contracting authorities. For each criterion, it provides application guidelines, a description of the criterion including an evaluation system and examples, evidence requirements for contractors, and proposals for penalty provisions. A compatibility matrix illustrates possible combinations of criteria within a single tender.

The catalog of recommendations was developed as part of the FFG research project “LZinfra – Life Cycle Tool for the Sustainability Assessment of Transportation Infrastructure”. This project is funded by the FFG (www.ffg.at, opens an external URL in a new window). The FFG is the central national funding organization and strengthens Austria’s innovative capacity. A big thank you goes to all the project’s funding agencies as well as to all the experts who contributed to the creation of the catalog of recommendations through their feedback!

The catalog of recommendations is now available online, opens an external URL in a new window.
