Last week, our “Git for newbies” workshop made its debut as part of the TU Wien continuing education programme.

Git for newbies

The new two-hour workshop offers an easy introduction to Git and was designed to complement our established Git training courses for beginners and advanced users. To ensure the best possible support, the number of participants is limited to ten. At last week’s workshop, this plan worked out very well with seven active participants and two trainers. The trainers, Sotiris Tsepelakis and Vlad Dancea from the Center for Research Data Management, are experienced Git users and a well-established workshop team. They designed the course to be hands-on, with short introductions and simple tasks that allowed participants to try out what they heard straight away and learn by doing.

More Git workshops

Next coming up is our well-tried Git day on 2 July 2026. With the workshops Introduction to Git, opens an external URL in a new window in the morning and Mastering Git, opens an external URL in a new window in the afternoon, both beginners and advanced Git users are catered for. These workshops are led by an external trainer, our former colleague Florian Wörister. They are very popular and usually book out quickly – as is the case this semester. If you’d still like to try your luck, you’re welcome to register and hope for a place from the waiting list.

All three Git courses will be held again in the winter semester. You will find information on this from September onwards in the TU Wien continuing education programme and in the events calendar on our website. If you have any further training needs regarding Git or other topics, please feel free to contact us.
