Climate expertise under threat: An open appeal from the scientific community

Michael Getzner (IFIP) and 1,224 other signatories from the scientific community demand:

  • An open, honest discussion of the challenges and risks that lie ahead, and clear political commitments to science, evidence, and precaution;
  • Long-term, reliable, and needs-based funding for climate and climate impact research, as well as research on socio-ecological transformation, through instruments such as research programs of the Climate and Energy Fund, StartClim, the FTI Strategy, or the FTI Pact;
  • Sufficient funding for structural measures for climate change adaptation and consistent action for climate neutrality;
  • the systematic anchoring of science-based climate targets as a central component of political strategies, e.g., industrial strategy
