End of Support for Legacy Outlook for Mac

Microsoft has announced that support for Legacy Outlook for Mac will be gradually discontinued over the coming years. This change affects the continued use of the client in our existing environments.

What is changing?

Legacy Outlook for Mac will no longer be further developed and is approaching end of life.

Usage with on-premises systems

When used with Exchange On-Premises (upTUdate), Legacy Outlook for Mac can continue to be used until October 9, 2029.

However, the following limitations will apply:

  • Only security updates will be provided
  • Technical support will be limited (“best effort”)

Recommendation

The use of Legacy Outlook for Mac is no longer recommended, as the client is being phased out and increasing limitations can be expected in the future.
As possible alternatives, other email clients may be used (e.g., Apple Mail in combination with Apple Calendar or third-party solutions such as eM Client).
Please note that these do not provide the full feature set of Outlook and may behave differently, especially in combination with Exchange On-Premises.

The Campus IT Service Center will be happy to assist you with switching to or setting up alternative email clients (e.g., eM Client or Apple Mail).
