No sooner has World Bicycle Day come to an end than the next cycleFIT project is already rolling into action. Anyone who cycles regularly knows the small and large challenges that come with everyday riding: a flat tire on the way to a lecture, brakes that start rubbing just before heading home, or a loose chain that causes trouble precisely when you're in a hurry. Bicycles are reliable companions—provided they receive a little care and attention.

This is exactly where the new reparier:bar comes in. A self-service bicycle workshop is currently being built on the Getreidemarkt campus and will be available free of charge to all TU Wien students and staff, 24/7. The idea is as simple as it is timely: anyone who wants to repair their bicycle should be able to do so easily themselves, without appointments, workshop fees, or long detours.

The reparier:bar was designed as part of a cycleFIT course by students of Architecture and Spatial Planning. Over the past several months, they developed the concept, planned its implementation, and are now building the workshop themselves.

The official opening will take place on 16 June at the Getreidemarkt campus. Between 11:00 and 17:00, visitors can bring their bicycles for a free bike check. Together with the HTU, a waffle stand will also be on site to provide refreshments. From 17:00 onwards, the reparier will officially open, followed by a Spritzer stand where guests can celebrate the occasion together.

The workshop is intended to be more than just a place for repairs, as the upcoming programme already demonstrates. On 30 June, the first lern:bar will take place, giving participants the opportunity to bring their bicycles and learn how to carry out repairs themselves with expert guidance. During the summer months, a film:bar is also planned, expanding the workshop into a cultural meeting place for the TU community.

In the long term, however, the project will thrive above all through the people who are willing to share their knowledge. Anyone who enjoys repairing bicycles and would like to help others learn is warmly invited to become part of the reparier:bar. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who would like to pass on their experience and contribute to establishing an open repair culture at TU Wien.
