Alexandra Pintilie at the International PhD School on Economic Geography in Utrecht

From April 20th to 30th 2026, the International PhD School on Economic Geography took place in Utrecht, organized by Ron Boschma and Deyu Li (both from Utrecht University). Alexandra Pintilie (SRF) presented the current status of her dissertation on “The role of anchor firms in regional industrial transition processes in non-metropolitan areas”, while also participating in the program as a junior discussant for another presentation.

The International PhD School on Economic Geography was organized at Utrecht University and offered insights into current research perspectives and approaches in economic geography. This year’s key topics included ecological and digital transitions, as well as geopolitical tensions and regional inequalities. In addition to numerous PhD candidates, leading scholars were also in attendance, discussing current findings and providing valuable feedback.
