cycLINK at the Austrian Bicycle Summit 2026

Together with Teresa Kallsberger, Hans Kramar presented on the FFG project “cycLINK” at the 2026 Austrian Cycling Summit, which took place in Eisenstadt from 9 to 11 September 2026. In this research project, conducted in collaboration with the Graz Energy Agency (GEA) and the bike-sharing provider Nextbike, we are investigating the possibilities for designing a comprehensive bike-sharing system in Austria. To this end, the potential demand for bike sharing is determined at a fine-grained level using complex spatial data layers on land use (residential, work, recreation, education, mobility, etc.). This database serves as an empirical basis for identifying and prioritising potential service areas, as well as for estimating the number of stations and bicycles required. In his presentation, Hans Kramar outlined possible scenarios for the phased expansion of the station network across the nine federal states.
