The Research Unit for Land Policy and Land Management warmly congratulates Barbara Steinbrunner, opens an external URL in a new window on the successful completion of her doctoral degree.

On 8 July 2026, Barbara Steinbrunner successfully completed her doctoral defense (Rigorosum). As part of the examination, she first delivered a 40-minute presentation outlining the key findings of her dissertation. This was followed by an 80-minute academic discussion, during which the examination committee posed questions in three rounds.

The examination committee included Prof. Alexandra Weitkamp, opens an external URL in a new window (TU Dresden, Land Management), Prof. Alois Humer, opens an external URL in a new window (TU Wien, Research Unit for Regional Planning), and Barbara's supervisor, Prof. Arthur Kanonier, opens an external URL in a new window (TU Wien, Research Unit for Land Policy and Land Management).

The dissertation, entitled "Baulandüberhang und die Rolle von Rückwidmungen in Österreich", makes an important scientific contribution to understanding the relationships between excess designated building land, downzoning, and sustainable land policy in Austria.
