ACCTRA examined how experiments could facilitate the transformation of street spaces from car-dominated to active mobility-focused areas. Particular emphasis was placed on communication and engagement initiatives, as well as evaluating these experiments.
Under the leadership of MOVE, street experiments were conducted in Klagenfurt and Istanbul in close collaboration with the city administrations. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our consortium partners once again for their excellent collaboration: the Climate and Environmental Protection Department of the State Capital Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, netwiss OG, Bednar Landscape Architecture, Özyegin University Istanbul, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the Maltepe District and Koucky & Partners.
The project initiated a discussion in Klagenfurt about redesigning the outer section of Bahnhofstraße, supported by stakeholder involvement, surveys, spatial analyses and capacity building within the city administration.
In Istanbul, a pop-up bike lane was created to connect an important commuter train station with the existing coastal bike route. This provided valuable insights into challenges related to minibus traffic and parking issues.
This transnational collaboration resulted in the publication of a guide outlining nine success factors, which is available in German at www.pop-up.jetzt.
Additionally, Gunnar Grandel and Martin Berger from MOVE published a research article on theories of change in street experiments. You can read it here, opens an external URL in a new window via open access.
