We are excited to kick off a new research collaboration with the Institute for Formal Models and Verification led by Bernhard Aichernig at Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, bringing together expertise in WastewaterTreatment and MachineLearning.
As part of this collaboration, this week the PhD student Tamim Burgstaller from JKU Linz visited our pilot wastewater treatment plant to get a better understanding of the underlying processes in order to further work on the modelling of wastewater treatment plants. By applying machine learning and formal methods such as automata learning, the aim is to develop a bilateral AI approach at the intersection of wastewater treatment and applied computer science. 
As additional partners in this and potential future projects, the research group Integral Building Technology led by Gerald Schweiger is contributing its knowledge on the application of machine learning methods for process optimization and failure detection.
It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss future research directions and combine expertise from environmental engineering and computer science. We are looking forward to seeing how this collaboration develops and we're confident it will lead to many exciting research projects in the future.
