From July 20 to 24, 2026, the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing at TU Wien hosted the 11th Conference on Computational Methods in Applied Mathematics (CMAM 2026). The five-day conference brought more than 270 researchers from 30 countries to Vienna.
The CMAM conference series focuses on current developments in mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and scientific computing. Its goal is to promote international exchange among researchers in theoretical numerical analysis and application-oriented areas of modeling and simulation.
With 237 presenters, CMAM 2026 offered an exceptionally comprehensive scientific program. This included 15 invited plenary talks, 21 thematic mini-symposia, and parallel sessions featuring additional technical presentations. Topically, the spectrum ranged from finite element methods, adaptive methods, and efficient solvers, through uncertainty quantification and inverse problems, to the numerical foundations for the reliable application of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The presentations provided numerous opportunities for in-depth technical discussions and new international collaborations.
The conference was organized by Markus Faustmann, Michael Feischl, and Dirk Praetorius from the Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing. Very special thanks to Marie Auzinger and her team, whose professional organization and support were repeatedly and explicitly praised by the participants.
