Two years ago the development of the CAT – Curriculum Administration Tool was started as part of a broader initiative to digitalize the student life cycle. Within these two years a lot has happened, now it is time for a short update on the project.

The event is aimed at all interested staff and faculty at the participating universities. It will be your first chance to explore the platform before the project enters its pilot phase in October 2026 and the software begins rolling out across universities.

CAT is a web-based tool for curriculum design and development, offering the following features

By June 2026

  • Course content modelling
  • Text authoring
  • Commenting and annotation
  • Accessible PDF export
     

Additional features by September 2026

  • Template curriculum
  • Notifications
     

The project roadmap runs through 2030, with the following milestones

By 2028

  • Full support for Bachelor's and Master's programs
  • Collaborative development of joint programs (e.g. between faculties or Austrian universities)
  • Strong uptake and engagement across target groups
  • Transparent, inclusive, robust and auditable processes in place
  • Reduced reliance on individual key personnel
  • Built-in error checks to streamline quality assurance
  • Data import and export interfaces fully operational
  • Alignment with European standards (EMREX, ELM)
  • Comprehensive support and help resources in place 

By 2030

  • Full support for teacher training programs
  • All curriculum tasks — including amendments and university development planning — handled within the tool
  • Widespread interest and adoption across Austrian universities
  • Curriculum data shareable with working groups at other universities
  • A solid foundation laid for future development
  • Joint programs are fully manageable within the tool, including administration, roles and access rights
