Alfredo Soldati, Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Head of the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer at TU Wien, has received the 2026 ASME Fluids Engineering Award, one of the leading international honours in fluids engineering.
The award was presented during the 2026 ASME Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting, held in Bellevue, Washington, in the Seattle metropolitan area. This year’s meeting had particular significance as it marked the 100th anniversary of the ASME Fluids Engineering Division.
The Fluids Engineering Award recognizes sustained and outstanding contributions to the field. Soldati was honoured for his research on turbulent multiphase flows, in particular the transport, interaction, deformation and breakup of particles, droplets and bubbles in turbulence. His work combines high-resolution numerical simulations with advanced optical experiments and has contributed to the development of new numerical and experimental approaches for investigating multiphase turbulent flows.
As part of the conference programme, Soldati delivered the plenary lecture “Droplets and Bubbles Breakup in Turbulence”.
| “I am very pleased to receive this award from ASME. Above all, I see it as recognition of the collective work of the many students and colleagues with whom I have had the privilege of working over the years. I am grateful to all of them, and also to TU Wien and the University of Udine for providing the environment in which this research could develop.” |
