Completion of the ESPON Project “CROSSGOV: Governance mechanisms for cross-border functional areas”

The ESPON project “CROSSGOV: Governance mechanisms for cross-border functional areas” was officially concluded in March 2026. The project’s objective was to create a better understanding of cross-border functional areas. In addition to a comprehensive pan-European analysis of cross-border regions and a compendium on cross-border governance structures, the project also included ten case studies on selected regions in Europe.

In collaboration with the lead partner, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, and the other members of the consortium, the project has now been finalised. SRF played a key role in the preparation of the compendium and the Newry-Dundalk (UK/IE) case study.
