The opening of the 47th International Vienna Motor Symposium at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna once again brought together leading figures from the global automotive and commercial vehicle industries. High-profile keynote speeches highlighted current challenges and potential solutions at the intersection of technological transformation and regulatory requirements.
Madame Wang, Senior Vice President of Geely Auto China, spoke about the further development of powertrain technologies and the transformation of global vehicle development amidst changing regulatory frameworks. Niklas Klingenberg, Chief Technology Officer at TRATON, emphasised the growing importance of modularity and close collaboration between manufacturers and suppliers in international commercial vehicle development.
Prof. Stefan Pischinger (RWTH Aachen and FEV) outlined various approaches to compliance with the EU’s 2035 greenhouse gas regulations and made it clear that all options involve a high degree of complexity and cost. Donghee Han, Executive Vice President of Electrified Propulsion at Hyundai, presented his company’s innovation strategies, which are based on technological advancement and a pragmatic approach.
The opening ceremony was accompanied by music in the traditional manner: five members of the TU Wien orchestra opened the symposium with the fanfare from Georg Friedrich Händel’s Water Music.
