From 13 to 17 July 2026, the Institute of Applied Physics at TU Wien hosted the first International Symposium on Three-Dimensional Nanomagnetism (3DMAG 2026).

The conference featured a strong scientific programme of keynote lectures, invited and contributed talks, and a wide range of poster presentations. The topics covered included magnetic memories and spintronics in three dimensions, advances in 3D nanofabrication and characterisation, the topology of three-dimensional spin textures, geometrical and curvature-induced effects, and links to neighbouring fields such as superconductivity, liquid crystals and geology. A particular highlight was the high quality of the talks and posters presented by students.

Held in the centre of Vienna, the scientific programme was complemented by several social activities . These included a concert featuring classical Viennese music, visits to the 3DNANO laboratories, a tour through Vienna in a historic tram from the early 1920s, and a conference dinner at a traditional Heuriger in Grinzing.

This successful first edition established 3DMAG as a new international meeting for the growing 3D nanomagnetism community. The symposium is planned to take place every three years, with the next edition scheduled for Paris in 2029.
