We are proud to see our colleagues representing our institute at the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Kos, Greece. Sara Neuburg presented the first application of the adapted balance method to refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from Uganda. Her research evaluates the material composition of RDF using the adapted balance method, with an introduction to Uganda's municipal waste management system providing the context for the study. Fabian Mattersberger presented research on Halogenated Flame Retardants in European Plastic Pipes and Ducts, focusing on persistent organic pollutant (POP) contamination in historic plastic stocks and its implications for recycling and the circular economy. KOS 2026 brings together researchers and practitioners from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss innovative solutions for sustainable waste management. We are pleased to contribute to these conversations and showcase our institute's research. Congratulations to Sara and Fabian on their presentations.
