12. Fusion Day at TU Graz

Group photo of the participants of the 12th Austrian Fusion Day, held on 21 November 2025 at TU Graz. The event brought together over 40 researchers from the Austrian fusion research programme – including numerous early-career scientists and representatives from Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, and Leoben. In the front row: keynote speaker and EUROfusion Programme Manager Dr. Gianfranco Federici (centre), and Prof. Friedrich Aumayr (far left; ÖAW/TU Wien), Director of the Austrian Fusion Research Programme at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

The evening before the event, fusion researchers from all over Austria gathered at the Gösser Bräu in Graz to enjoy fried chicken, beer, and passionate discussions about plasma physics and fusion research.

The Fusion Day itself began with the official opening by Prof. Friedrich Aumayr, Director of the Austrian Fusion Research Programme at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, followed by an inspiring keynote lecture by EUROfusion Programme Manager Gianfranco Federici entitled: “Towards a credible and attractive plan to deliver fusion (not just a promise)”

Afterwards, young scientists from across Austria presented their current research in a series of short talks. Representing our research unit, Benjamin Burazor-Domazet shared his latest results on deuterium retention in tungsten.

A successful Fusion Day – full of exchange, exciting presentations, and contagious enthusiasm for fusion energy!
