The market is growing. Getting started is complex. Where does your company fit in?

Studying part-time at TU Wien

European defence spending is surging. The demand for dual-use technology from civilian industry is at an all-time high, and the European defence supply chain is actively seeking new partners. For technology companies in engineering, automotive, electronics, sensors and cyber, this represents a significant strategic opportunity within the European defence industry. Yet entering the defence sector is far from straightforward. Defence procurement follows complex, often opaque processes. The regulatory framework spans export controls, FDI screening and evolving national policies, and investment security remains uncertain. At the same time, most civilian companies lack leaders who understand both the technology world and the requirements of the defence industry. Companies looking to enter the defence supply chain as contractors or suppliers face a fundamental question: Where in the value chain does our company fit – and what do we need to get there?

The solution: let go of the reins and treat change as an experiment

The program combines in-depth knowledge of the European defense market with a clear strategic framework for your company.

You will gain an understanding of how military procurement works, what capabilities will be in demand on the battlefield of the future, and how civilian technologies fit into the defense industry’s value chain. You will analyze your own capabilities, assess your dual-use potential and product-market fit in the defense context, and develop a concrete market entry roadmap. Along the way, you will build a network that is crucial in the defense industry: with other companies, decision-makers, and industry experts.

Bring Your Own Case + Canvas

The program follows the “Bring Your Own Case” approach: Throughout both modules, each participant works intensively on their own company’s specific situation. No fictional case studies, no generic exercises—just your company’s actual capabilities, markets, and strategic challenges.

In the seminar, you will work with tried-and-tested frameworks, systems theory models, and concrete tools for your everyday work. The focus is on your own cases. You will benefit from exchanging experiences with fellow managers from different industries and reflect on your own understanding of leadership.
