In bright sunshine and with representatives of the project team and many prominent people from politics in attendance, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Agri-Photovoltaic lighthouse project "Sonnenfeld Bruck/Leitha" took place after several years of development.

At the Sonnenfeld in Bruck/Leitha, electricity for more than 1,000 households will be produced starting in the fall of 2022. The 5-hectare Agri-PV research facility has laid the foundation for nature-friendly solar power generation with the lowest possible land consumption. The Austrian federal government has set itself the goal of covering domestic electricity consumption from domestic renewable energies by 2030. With the help of PV systems, an additional 11 TWh of solar power is to be generated annually as early as 2030.

“We expect to receive information on how mechanized agricultural management works best in practice, which crops are best suited, and the impact of the agri-photovoltaic system on biodiversity," the managing directors Michael Hannesschläger (Energiepark Bruck GmbH) and Joachim Payr (EWS Consulting GmbH) agreed.
