New Workplaces: Innovative Environments in Practice
New Work is not a vision of the future, we are right in the middle of it. Our world of work has undergone major changes in recent years as a result of megatrends such as digitalization and globalization. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about a further transformation in the world of work, which poses major challenges for organizations and employees.
What does the Post-Covid work world look like? How do I create a working environment that meets the needs of the employees, that offers space for exchange and good cooperation, but also enables quiet, concentrated work? Where do employees work from and what kind of working atmosphere do I use to support motivation and employee loyalty to my organization? Which legal framework do I have to consider both in the office and in the home office? In the battle for the best brains, the workplace and working conditions are crucial: what can organizations do to be a leader in this field and what influence do new technologies have on this?
These are just a few of the questions we deal with in modern working environments. Get to know the potential of New Work and make your working world fit for the future!
Objective
In our new short format, you will deal with current trends in working environments and the office world during and after the Covid-19 crisis.
You will
- learn to define the needs of the employees of your organization and management in terms of the physical and digital working environments.
- know the legal framework for employees and employers both in the office and in the home office.
- get insights into emerging technologies and how they influence the working environments.
- learn how to use a modern work concept to gain a competitive advantage in the war for talents.
Target Group
We address entrepreneurs, personalists and people in IT departments who want to shape the new working world in their organization. The course is also suitable for managers and executives in general, as well as for facility managers.
- Certificate

Confirmation of participation from TU Wien and 8 ECTS credits (if a written project work is submitted). The obtained credits can be transferred towards TU Wien´s MBA programs.
- Didactics

Theoretical inputs, learning videos, discussions and reflections, integrative case study on the application of what has been learned.
- Language

German (partially English), a good command of German is necessary for participating in the program.
- Participation Fee

The participation fee is EUR 2,390 (VAT exempt). For ACE-Alumni a reduced participation fee of EUR 2,090 (VAT exempt) applies.
- Bring your own case

The Learning Sprint on "New Work" can be completed as a certified course or optionally, upon submission of a written project report, with 8 ECTS points. The obtained credits can be transferred towards TU Wien´s MBA programs. In the project work, participants work on a task from their own practice and can thus apply what they have learned to a real problem.

Faculty
In our learning sprint on the topic of New Work, scientists and proven experts pass on their knowledge and practical experience first-hand. In addition to our lecturers, experts from organizations such as the Red Cross or from a renowned law firm will report on their practical experience.
Ao.Univ.Prof. Dr. Alexander Redlein is head of the Real Estate and Facility Management (IFM) department at the TU Wien and academic director of the Professional MBA Modern Workplace & Facility Management. He is also international teaching staff of the ME310 Design Innovation course at Stanford University. Furthermore, he is President of REUG, Past President of IFMA Austria and was a member of the executive board of EuroFM.
After an interdisciplinary education at the TU Wien and the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Prof. Redlein has been involved in research and teaching on the topic of real estate and facility management for about 20 years. In recent years, he has developed numerous FM strategies and concepts at international companies and optimized processes in the field of FM, as well as creating IT concepts and strategies for space management. In addition, he is a strategy consultant for international service providers.
As a researcher, Prof. Redlein has been conducting surveys at leading companies in the CEE region since 2006 on the status quo and trends in FM as well as the potential for value enhancement. He specializes in risk management, ICS, CSR and IT support as well as workplace management and digitalization in FM.
Pat Turnbull, MA, LEED AP holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Occidental College and a Master of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from UCLA. She is currently an IFMA Foundation Trustee and is an active member of IFMA and Cornet. Pat Turnbull has 22 years of professional experience helping corporations, higher education institutions, health care facilities and government agencies achieve productive work space that delivers their unique work environment and meets the specific business needs.
She is currently president and COO of Kayhan International, a workplace strategy and furniture distribution company headquartered in Chicago.
Andreas Grieb has been a judge since 1994. Initially at the District Court Josefstadt, since 2007 at the Regional Court for Civil Law with a focus on real estate and medical law. He has extensive teaching experience in Facility Management and Real Estate Law at TU Wien as well as the University of Vienna. Furthermore, he is author and has been a board member of the Housing and Tenancy Law Section of the Association of Austrian Judges since 2008. He has been an emergency paramedic and driver for over 30 years and is currently deputy rescue commander at the Vienna Red Cross.

Univ.Ass. DI Lisa Thrainer studied architecture at TU Graz and graduated in 2014. She worked for different architecture offices in Germany, France and Austria. Since 2020, Lisa Thrainer has been a university assistant in the Real Estate & Facility Management at TU Wien., opens an external URL in a new window Her research focuses on Facility Management Trends in Europe and New Ways of Working.
Dr. Michael Lagler studied law at the University of Salzburg and business law at the Pallas Consortium in the Netherlands. He has extensive teaching experience at the University of Salzburg and the University of the Pacific in Sacramento / California, is an author and has been Managing Partner at Schönherr since February 2017.
His focus areas include real estate law, real estate & construction, corporate real estate (M & A), energy outsourcing and CEE business law.
This content will be brought into the program together with Teresa Waidmann and Marco Thorbauer, who will contribute to the program including tax law aspects.
