That was the TU Ball 2026
On January 29, 2026, the TU Ball took place in the banquet halls of Vienna's Hofburg Palace. The TU Orchestra and TU Choir celebrated the grand opening.
An opening speech with clear messages
In his opening speech, Rector Jens Schneider expressed his delight at the large turnout: "Once again, the ball sold out within minutes – and not just because of the music or the unique atmosphere here in the Hofburg. But also because the proceeds go to a good cause: helping students succeed in their studies and promoting reading and STEM subjects for children. Dancing for a good cause – there's hardly a better way to invest in a great evening."
Rector Jens Schneider also emphasized the central importance of education and responsibility. Education should not be a privilege, and achievements should be valued. Progress in research, teaching, and technological innovation is only possible thanks to committed and talented people. The future of Austria and Europe depends on them – and ultimately our shared future.
It is our task to give these talented individuals the freedom they need to actively shape this future. He concluded by emphasizing that TU Wien sees itself as a place of the future – an institution where technology is created to serve people and developed together with people who take responsibility and have learned to think critically. This is precisely what the new vision sums up: TU Wien – where we dare to reason!
The music program in the various state rooms of the Hofburg ranged from classical waltz music, folk music, and disco sounds to New Orleans jazz and Latin American rhythms. Jazz music also had guests dancing energetically in the ACE Lounge in the second Radetzky apartment. It was wonderful to see elegantly dressed students, researchers, and other guests from Austria and abroad radiating pure joie de vivre throughout the evening. We are already looking forward to next year, when it will be time to say “Alles Walzer!” again.
