Deformation induced precipitation in microalloyed aluminium

The image series above shows Sc and Cu rich precipitates in an Al matrix.

-) The top left image shows a TEM image of a spherical precipitate with smaller precipitates with higher mass density indicated by the ligher shade of grey growing on top of the spherical precipitate.

-) The top right image shows that Cu is concentrated in the smaller precipitate

-) The bottom left image shows that Sc is almost exclusively found in the spherical precipitate

We are interested in the effects of combined high deformation and pre-nuclei for the precipitate evolution of Al-Cu particles. Microalloying of Al-alloys becomes realisable with this setting, since acceleration of precipitate evolution is significant, compared to simple thermal aging.
