Japanese Researcher Networking Event Held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan

On 16 July 2026, Ambassador Kiminori Iwama hosted a Japanese Researcher Networking Event at the Ambassador's Residence in cooperation with TU Wien. The event brought together Japanese researchers from a wide range of disciplines and institutions across Austria to foster networking and academic exchange.

The event opened with welcome remarks by Ambassador Kiminori Iwama, followed by an address from Peter Ertl, Vice Rector of TU Wien. Iris Mach, Director of the Japan Austria Science Exchange Center (JASEC), then introduced JASEC and its activities in promoting scientific exchange between Japan and Austria.

Four Japanese researchers based in Austria subsequently shared their experiences of conducting research and building their careers in the Austrian academic environment. Their presentations were followed by a lively question-and-answer session and discussions on career development, research opportunities, and the challenges and rewards of pursuing research in Austria.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Iwama reflected on his participation in the Japan Science Day hosted by TU Wien in October last year, noting that the event had reaffirmed the importance of academic collaboration between Japan and Austria. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the network of Japanese researchers working in Austria.

We look forward to seeing the participants again at Japan Science Day 2026, to be held at TU Wien on 20 October. The event will provide Japanese researchers with another opportunity to deepen their connections with researchers from TU Wien and other Austrian institutions, and is expected to contribute to the further development of academic exchange between Japan and Austria.
