A ginkgo tree - an enduring symbol of resilience and a cherished emblem of the University of Tokyo - was planted at the Atominstitut, marking not only a shared history of scientific exchange but also a commitment to future cooperation.

The ceremony brought together distinguished guests, including representatives from academia and the Embassy of Japan, highlighting 45 years of partnership, innovation, and mutual respect.

The event was initiated and hosted by Georg Steinhauser, who guided the programme with numerous participants from TU Wien and Japanese partner institutions. Opening remarks were delivered by Peter Ertl (Vice Rector) and Satoko Toku (Minister‑Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan), followed by presentations from Iris Mach, Takeru Shibayama and Katsumi Shozugawa, who conveyed greetings from Torahiko Terada, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo.
